Chapter 126 

Lola didn’t express her thoughts as she watched the sun setting through the floor–to–ceiling window, 

It was almost evening, and by tomorrow morning, the company might look entirely different. 

“Hey, Layla, let’s get going. Melissa has got a feast waiting for us. Time to head home.” Melissa was the housekeeper. 

Ethan called out to her as he entered the room, seeing Lola lost in thought. 

“Ethan, I want to stay at the office for a while. You go ahead.” 

Lola’s face was pale, and it looked like she was in a bad mood. She didn’t even want to go home for dinner. 

Ethan couldn’t help but wonder if they had pushed her too hard. 

“Layla,” he said gently, “don’t worry about the company so much. What’s done is done. Just take care of yourself, okay?” 

Ethan couldn’t quite understand Lola’s sour mood. 

Taking over a company just to watch it crumble a week later would definitely leave Lola feeling guilty for the Lewis Group for quite a while. 

“I want to stay here and find a way to save the company, Ethan. can’t just watch it run down 

Tll be fine. You go ahead. The driver is waiting outside. Nothing will happen to me.” 

Ethan felt uneasy. But he suddenly thought of something and reluctantly nodded. “Just don’t overwork yourself. And call me if anything comes up, alright?” 

Once Ethan left, there wasn’t anyone left in the company she could talk to. 

Lola felt a weight in her heart pressing her hard, leaving her powerless even if she wanted to do something. 

“Ms. Lewis, another company just sent a notice. If the project falls through, they’ll demand we pay the penalty tomorrow,” the assistant rushed in and reported. 

“What should we do now? The company simply can’t afford this penalty. If we don’t pay, we’ll definitely end up in court, and that would be even worse for our reputation.” 

The assistant sighed, “Ms. Lewis, payday’s the day after tomorrow. The employees are probably in the dark about this whole mess. If they find out we can’t cover payroll, they’ll riot. 

“If the employees go on strike, the company is going to shut down…” 

The assistant’s words dealt a fatal blow to Lola. 

She opened her mouth, but no words came out. A wave of helplessness washed over her, leaving her on the verge of tears. The weight

“Mr. Sinclair? Where are you going? Did I say something wrong? Did I upset you! Please, I’ll fix it. Just tell me!” the businessman pleaded, scrambling after Dominick

“Did you see that? He just brought a girl in. She looks young, not like a business partner. Could she be his girlfriend?” 

The two receptionists were surprised to see the usually aloof Dominick with a young girl. 

“She could be. But are they fighting? Why are they standing so far apart!”
