Chapter 2
Early the next morning, Archer pulled me out of bed as if nothing had happened, helped me get dressed, and took me to the hospital for a physical examination.
I didn’t want to go to the hospital.
But Archer insisted.
He held my hand tightly to prevent any escape attempts.
At the hospital, the doctor conducted routine examinations and advised, “Mrs. Lopez is still too weak. She should take care of herself and rest more often. She should smile more and be happy.”
Archer listened very carefully and asked some precautions, portraying the caring husband’s role flawlessly.
After getting the medicine, we left the hospital together.
“Emily?”
Archer paused slightly, staring at the figure not far Emily!
away.
A source of joy for Archer but torment for me, for eight long years.
Archer looked at me, quivered excitedly, and said, “Leilani, you go back first, I have something to do.” I nodded, “Okay.”
“Take care, call me once you’re back.”
After Archer finished speaking, he couldn’t wait to run towards the figure.
I looked at his excited expression and sighed slightly.
I made a phone call, “Gideon, I’ve made my decision. Let’s meet now.”
It was already evening after meeting Gideon.
Archer didn’t come back.
After washing up, I prepared to go to bed.
At this time, Archer came back. As soon as he entered the room, he hugged me tightly.
He asked, “Leila, I heard from Maeve that you came back very late. Where have you been?”
I didn’t answer him, but asked him softly, “Did you find the one you sought?”
Archer was stunned, feigning ignorance, “Who?”
“Emily, your love.”
Avoiding my gaze, he faltered, “A case of mistaken identity. Emily has long passed away.” Looking at his panicked expression, I didn’t expose him.
From that day on, Archer came home very late
I knew exactly what he was doing.
If he didn’t say anything, I won’t bother him.
every day.
I turned off the lights and was getting ready for bed.
Archer laid on the bed, reeking of alcohol. He hugged me and murmured vaguely, “Leila…” He must be happy to be drinking so much.
It seemed that Emily was really back.
That’s good. Derek could rest assured that someone was accompanying Archer.
I pushed his hand away and looked at him expressionlessly, “What? Were you unsatisfied with the
women outside?”
Archer started to speak without thinking, “Yes, I need to change my taste occasionally.”
As he spoke, he leaned his drunken body towards me.
I pushed him away and covered my nose in disgust, “You are too dirty. Don’t infect me with dirty diseases. Either sleep quietly or get out.”
Archer teased, “What? Leila, are you jealous?”
I lay still and said nothing,
Archer said jauntily, “You have to be more obedient to me, so that I won’t abandon you.”
Let him be. I had long been numb to his words.
I didn’t care what he wanted anymore.
