Chapter 23 Don’t Go Overboard
Nathan glanced at the test results, his gaze darkening. The results indicated a mere 0.01 percent blood relationship, indicating they weren’t father and son. Nathan’s initial reaction was one of disbelief. How can this be? On the other hand, Olivia remained calm, having anticipated this outcome.
Emily, seated beside them, sneered and added fuel to the fire. “I told you this child couldn’t possibly be yours, but you didn’t believe me! Now that you’ve seen the results, you should accept the truth. Thankfully, you conducted the test. Otherwise, you would’ve been raising someone else’s child!”
“Enough!” Nathan snapped, glancing towards Emily sharply. “I have my own judgment. I don’t need you to interfere!” Emily’s face paled. “Why are you being so aggressive? Did I say something wrong? Why are you speaking to me like this?” Nathan didn’t believe the accuracy of the results. Recalling the doctor’s behavior, his gaze flickered. The doctor was clearly guilty. It was suspicious! He looked up at Dr. Ricker pointedly as his thin lips parted. “Are you certain the results are accurate?”
Dr. Ricker quickly assured him, “Mr. Carter, all the tests are done according to our test center’s procedures. There’s no room for error.” His gaze flickered as he spoke, clearly feeling guilty. Nathan continued to observe Dr. Ricker with narrowed eyes. Dr. Ricker broke into a cold sweat when faced with the man’s sharp gaze.
Sensing the tension, Emily tried to divert
Son’s attention, afraid the doctor couldn’t take the pressure. She immediately said, “He’s just a forensic doctor. Why would he fake it? Instead of questioning him, ask the mother and son how they manipulated the DNA report. Didn’t you say you had no interest in our family? How are you going to explain yourself now?” She spoke tauntingly, trying to intimidate Olivia and Liam.
Liam shook his head in disbelief. “No way… I’m not Daddy’s son?” The rims of his eyes reddened as he looked. at Nathan and tried to defend himself. “Daddy, I didn’t fake the test results!” Emily challenged him, “So, was the report false?” Although Liam was intelligent, he was still a child at the end of the day. He almost didn’t know how to explain himself after being questioned by an adult. He could only answer, “No, I didn’t.”
He gripped Nathan’s clothes tightly with tears in his eyes, looking pitiful and wronged. “Daddy, you must believe me. I really didn’t lie. Olivia was furious and distressed when she saw her son like that. She patted his back and comforted him. “Don’t be sad. I know you won’t lie, but he’s not your daddy! Come home with me, okay?”
Liam buried his head in Olivia’s arms and sobbed silently. Olivia looked at Nathan coldly and said icily, “You should give up now, Mr. Carter. If there’s nothing else, I’ll be leaving with my son. Large tears fell from Liam’s eyes, and his nose turned red. Olivia felt awfully distressed when she saw her son crying. She stroked Liam’s head gently and turned to leave.
Nathan immediately grabbed her arm. “Hold on…” Olivia’s gaze was icy as she looked at the man’s exquisite face. “Mr. Carter, enough is enough! I’ve already agreed to the paternity test. Now that the results are out, what else do you want? Don’t go overboard. I told you from the start that he’s not your child!”
