Chapter 22 You Still Have Me
“Hmph” At that moment, Emily suddenly sneered and glanced at him coldly. She said sarcastically, “Who knows if that test was faked?! Some people can do anything for money. Don’t you know what kind of a person you are? Are you still dreaming of joining the Carter family?”
“I didn’t!” Liam quickly refuted. His eyes reddened at being wrongly accused. He pouted and was on the verge of crying. Olivia felt a pang of sorrow when she saw how distressed her son was. An icy expression crept onto her face. Despite knowing that Liam was her grandson, Emily still chose to hurl hurtful words at him. It was easy to imagine the potential consequences if Liam was recognized as Nathan’s son.
She spoke sarcastically and sharply in an icy tone. “Mrs. Carter, you’re overthinking this. The Carter family may be the wealthiest in the country. While many want to be a part of your family, not everyone thinks the same. Frankly, if Mr. Carter hadn’t insisted on the test, I wouldn’t have come here. Rest assured. I’ll leave with my child after checking the paternity test!”
Emily’s expression soured after being ridiculed. Olivia, however, decided to ignore her. She gently reassured Liam, “Don’t be upset, alright? It’s alright if he’s not your dad. You still have me. I love you, and that’s what matters.” Liam felt aggrieved. Although it was good to have a caring mother, it would be better if he had a dad
Nathan felt slightly annoyed when he heard it. What does she mean by that? “I trust you, Liam. I just want to ensure everything is foolproof. Don’t worry, okay? I believe you’re my son. With those words, he reached for the envelope.
Dr. Ricker, visibly nervous, had a faint sheen of sweat on his forehead. He gripped the envelope tightly, almost reluctant to let go. Nathan Carter is before me! If the falsified test result is uncovered, I’ll be done for. Yet, Nathan’s mother demanded the false results. He lamented inwardly, torn between two sides.
Nathan noticed his unease. He furrowed his brow, took the envelope forcefully, and passed it to Olivia. “Would you like to take a look first?” Olivia’s gaze flickered, and she responded calmly, “No need. You can look. I already know the results! No need for unnecessary actions.” Nathan gazed at her intently, a myriad of emotions swirling within him.
“I’ll look!” Unable to contain her impatience, Emily snatched the envelope. Olivia looked at her tauntingly with a piercing gaze! Emily froze and was secretly taken aback. Olivia had indeed undergone a transformation!
Olivia was meek and cautious in the Carter family years ago. Now, she exuded an undeniably assertive presence. It seemed like she could see through everything with her piercing gaze. It made Emily feel inexplicably guilty. However, she quickly composed herself and felt resentful.
Why should I fear this criminal? She should dwell in misery and excruciating agony before she’s worthy of seeking redemption for her sins! She thinks she’s so magnificent, but she’s revolting. Emily’s expression turned cold as she thought about it, and her hands unconsciously moved faster.
The envelope was opened in seconds, and the test result was taken out. With the data before her, Emily glanced at it indifferently and was content. She passed it to Nathan and said, “Take a look!”
