Chapter 72: Playing Cards
With Michael back, Victoria got straight to the point.
“Michael, we’re here about Cathy’s job. She keeps asking when she can start working. As her cousin, you should care about this.”
“Michael, you’re the best. I don’t ask for much. Just give me the Creative Director position!”
This is a pretty tough requirement.
Cathy doesn’t have much skill; she might not even be able to render a model room. Yet, she insists on applying to big design. firms. Her chances are practically zero.
But Michael stayed silent.
The chef was busy cooking lunch. Jennifer and her friends had no plans to leave, so they were staying for the meal.
Chloe ignored them and headed upstairs.
Suddenly, Cathy suggested, “Let’s play cards.”
“Mom, since we’re just sitting here bored, how about we play some cards to pass the time?”
Chloe doesn’t like playing cards and isn’t good at it either.

She played cards with the women of the Shawn family, but she lost and had to endure their mocking and scolding.

But today they were short on people. The three women had no choice but to call Chloe to join them.
“Chloe, come on! We’re all waiting for you. You can’t say no, right?”
“We’re family, so the stakes are low.”
It looked like they were trying to force Chloe to agree.
In the end, Cathy yanked Chloe into her seat.
Chloe kept losing round after round.
Ever since the Nelson family fell from grace, Chloe’s been hustling nonstop. No time for learning to play cards.
After marrying Michael, Chloe only picked up card games because she had to play with the Shawn family.
Chloe sucked at playing cards because she couldn’t count them.
Cathy hit the jackpot, and she couldn’t stop grinning.

“Chloe, you’ve played cards with the Shawn family members so many times, but why can’t you ever win?”
“Playing cards is just like doing business. You need to watch your opponents closely, not just stare at your own hand.”
Jennifer pretended to teach Chloe how to play cards, but her hands moved so fast that Chloe couldn’t keep up.
Chloe figured she was doomed to lose all day.
But in the next second, Michael was right beside her. Just as she was about to throw out a card, he quickly stopped her.
Chloe’s hand froze. She turned to look at him.
He frowned, but quickly muttered a few words.
“The Ace of Spades.”
Chloe dropped the ace of spades like a boss.
The other three instantly erupted in anger.
If Chloe had thrown the King of Spades, Victoria would have won. But thanks to Michael, she had to go with Plan B.
At first, everyone thought it was just a coincidence.

Thanks to Michael, Chloe always wins.
Jennifer played cards every day, but she could never beat Michael.
The three of them kept losing round after round. Chloe won back all the money she had just lost. They ended up losing even more, so they were pretty pissed.
